George Sherwin Park Opening
Residents of Sherwin Rise retirement village and the broader Aurora community were invited to celebrate the official opening earlier this month, on Saturday, 9 July 2022, in conjunction with NAIDOC Week.
Located adjacent to the Sherwin Rise retirement village at 40 Chetwynd Grove Wollert, George Sherwin Park and Playground is more than just a park. It’s a place that combines the perfect spot for peaceful reflection with play equipment for children, exercise paths, picnic facilities, and so much more.
The playground features a bouldering wall, adventure and toddler slides, see-saw, climbing ropes and a spinning lark which entertained even the most energetic grandchildren.
Extensive walking and cycle paths wind through the park, with pedestrian access connecting to Sherwin Rise at Aurora’s walkways, for the private use of the village residents.
The event started with an Acknowledgement of Country and a didgeridoo performance by Paul Kelly from the Gunditjmara – Kirrae Wurrong tribe. Paul shared the stories of his Elders and traditions and showed visitors a beginner technique to play the didgeridoo. Visitors were treated to complimentary coffee by Expresso Alfresco, hot jam donuts by Donut Panic and picnic kits courtesy of the Sherwin Rise team.
You can now enjoy endless fun with your family in this vibrant green space. That’s living well!
