Meet resident Coral Donald
“Living at Port Phillip Village is an extension of my life’s journey, taking what I have always loved with me.”
Coral Donald, Port Phillip Village
Resident since 2011
Coral Donald moved into a two bedroom unit at Port Phillip Village in 2011 with her husband, and they enjoyed spending quality time together in their new home before he passed away in 2017. These days she continues to enjoy an independent lifestyle by regularly chatting with neighbours, participating in village activities, or just enjoying some quiet time at home with lovely views of the adjacent golf course.
“The independent living is just right. I can come and go as I choose and all I need to do is close the door behind me. Arrangements to go on holidays are now so easy as my home is secure until I return, all maintenance and gardening done. My neighbours and I have an arrangement, which happened naturally to phone each other regularly and our calls are as long or short as we decide. Our phone calls in Australia don’t incur any additional charges and the phone service has an inbuilt Emergency response facility. A press of a button on the phone handset or pendant brings assistance from the Administration office on site.
We also have serviced apartment living attached to our Community Centre building which provides that extra level of support to residents such as cleaning, heavy laundry, meals cooked by the chef on site and served to your table in the dining room, and use of all the amenities provided at our village. It’s a great option for those who desire low maintenance apartment living.
Many unit residents like myself make a booking to enjoy a meal after Happy hour. There is much on offer to take part in each day and our Social Club is very active. I join with others in weekly Bingo, craft group, Happy Hour with our own bar serving economically priced beverages, art classes, gentle exercises classes and Rummikub games. I have joined in on most activities and all are welcome to be part of the fun. You can also invite a friend who doesn’t live at the village to participate in an activity, staying with you overnight if you wish. One of my hobbies is growing my own food which I continue to do at the vegetable allotments. Allotments are by request, free to residents.
Our village is next to the Kooringal golf course and the Truganina wetlands – a beautiful bird habitat. I love the view from my kitchen window as the players enjoy their game of golf. I have privacy as the golf course is planted with trees and shrubs dotted over the expanse of green lawns making up the course. The views from some apartments are also of the wetlands and bird habitat.
Living at Port Phillip Village is an extension of my life’s journey, taking what I have always loved with me. When I arrived, I felt like I was living in a resort and still feel that way.”
