Meet resident Neil Rosenfeld
Neil Rosenfeld, former professional ball room dancer, has lived at Koorootang Court for 2 years and 3 months. He cannot speak higher of his experience of the village apartments in Mount Martha. Neil moved from Melbourne’s Docklands to Mount Martha after a divorce and to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, the traffic and the noise.
Securing a newly refurbished two-bedroom apartment with a little backyard area, Neil adores his patch and uses the second bedroom as an office and gym, containing his desk, rowing machine and exercise bike. At the ripe old age of 82 he manages to work out every day with his best mate Barry who also lives in an apartment.
Now residing closer to his son, who lives in Mt Eliza, Neil explains: "It’s the companionship here, otherwise I would be looking at four walls."
"There is no amount of care or help that you can bring in that will replace the companionship that this village offers".
The first drawcard of the village was the price and affordability, followed by the immense sense of welcoming he felt upon arrival. Neil mentions: “I thought it would take me 12 months to feel comfortable and within a week everyone had introduced themselves and I felt very comfortable”.
Some of Neil’s favourite activities are bingo, movies in the Community Centre, having lunch and a chat with his best friends and a road tripping down the coast to Sorrento, in his convertible sports Jaguar.
“The staff are delightful with lovely, happy personalities. Nothing is ever too much of an ask”.
Neil also explains that as an apartment resident, he can receive meals which he delights in, saying, “…the chefs are great, damn good cooks. My favourite meal would have to be the Wednesday and Sunday roasts, they are delicious and come with a glass of wine too”.
In addition to the Koorootang Court village lifestyle that Neil enjoys so much, he also loves the area and says there are countless cafes, bakeries, restaurants and pubs nearby, not to mention the beach just 100 metres from the back gate of the village. Neil enjoys reading a good book on the beach.
“I don’t have any complaints, living here has made my latter years of life just so happy”.
