From school of dance to school of life
Meet resident and former dance champion Neil Rosenfeld
Neil Rosenfeld has been a resident at Koorootang Court located on Victoria’s stunning Mornington Peninsula since September 2018. His favourite pastimes include cruising to Sorrento in the Jag with his mate Barry, spending time with the grandchildren, and sharing his wisdom and experience with other dance professionals as an examiner at the impressive age of 81.
When Neil was 16 he was introduced to ballroom dancing by his boss which was the start of his life-long love for the craft. Only a couple of years later he started teaching beginners at a dance studio in Northcote and at age 21 became Australian champion for Australian Jive and Australian Cha Cha. One year later Neil won Australian Amateur title and married his dance partner Jenny. They have two children who are his proudest achievements in life. Throughout the years Neil had an amazingly successful career involving training in England with his wife and coaching many young teens until he finally retired from teaching at age 75. His studio, now based in Hallam, is currently run by one of Neil’s past students.
Neil’s successful career in dance has taught him many valuable skills in life, including how to be compassionate and selfless. He prides himself in being a positive person and says his best advice, from American football coach Vince Lombardi is "it’s not what happens when you get knocked down, it’s what you do when you get up."
