Phyllis Wigmore, “the heart and soul of the village”

Winner of the 2018 Good Sports "Camaraderie" Award – the ‘good sport’ who galvanises everyone together on a regular basis

We recently conducted a search to discover ‘Good Sports’ living within our Lendlease Retirement Living villages and resorts. We received hundreds of stories from residents nominating other residents. We were overwhelmed by the wonderful stories of selflessness, kindness, camaraderie and community.

Phyllis is that ray of sunshine everyone knows and loves to be around.

Affectionately known as the “heart and soul” of Burwood Terrace, she organises the monthly residents’ dinner and movie nights, and is especially famous for her delicious sponge cakes and phenomenal pannacotta dessert.

A tireless worker and dedicated church member, Phyllis goes out of her way to care for others, helping unwell residents and cooking meals for those in need. A great tennis player, handy seamstress and recipient of an OBE from the Queen, Phyllis is more than a ‘good sport’ - she’s a great sport!
