Community centre opens at Buderim Gardens

A fantastic facility heralds a bright future for the community in the oldest retirement village in Australia.

Residents of Lendlease Retirement Living’s Buderim Gardens, celebrated the official opening of their new community centre, heralding a bright future for the oldest, privately-owned retirement village in Australia.

The $5 million project was the culmination of four years of consultation with residents. Built with sustainability and adaptability in mind, the architecturally-designed community centre is a multi-functional space with moveable walls that grow and shrink the main hall as needed.

Residents will enjoy a huge kitchen with ample café-style seating and two outdoor decks overlooking the lake, a movie room, gym and outdoor pool with a shady space for outside yoga, meditation and stretch classes. There is a library, billiards room and craft room as well as a large auditorium for bigger gatherings and dance classes.

Accessibility was another strong focus in the design of the new centre with the inclusion of six new undercover mobility scooter parking spaces and there is also no need for residents to use a lift or to take stairs when visiting and using the centre.

The building is sustainable and built for the future, with solar power and thermal features that reduce energy consumption.

Managing Director of Lendlease Retirement Living, Tony Randello, was thrilled to unveil the newest addition to Buderim Gardens.

“We’ve worked closely with the residents to create a facility that everyone can be proud of and delivers a range of impressive features,” said Tony.

“The single level centre has been designed to reflect the Sunshine Coast lifestyle, with expansive terraces optimising the lake and rainforest outlook and to maximise air-flow and natural light, creating comfortable spaces with energy efficiency in mind.

“The new community centre is a social hub that encourages connection, collaboration and engagement, which is what our retirement communities are all about.

“Buderim Gardens is the oldest privately-owned retirement village in Australia –
and next year it celebrates its 50th anniversary. I’m thrilled to see this village evolve with the future in mind, while remaining true to its heritage and strong community values.”
